Russian Through Film: «На Дерибасовской хорошая погода, …»(on demand)
Join Victoria to watch and discuss this unusual Russian-American spy comedy from the 1990s.
These two sessions are focussed on the 1992 film На Дерибасовской хорошая погода, или На Брайтон-Бич опять идут дожди. It’s an unusual Russian-American comedy, and the last film directed by Leonid Gaiday. It captured the atmosphere of a time when cooperation between Russia and the West seemed not just possible, but inevitable. The film is full of references to real events and people of the early 1990s and earlier.
The first session will look at excerpts from the film, examine the background and context, and introduce key themes and vocabulary. Between the sessions, your task will be to watch the film. The second session will then give you the chance to discuss what you’ve seen and test how well you have understood it. The course comprises two 1.5-hour sessions which will be scheduled to suit you and you can participate individually, or as a small group of 2 or 3 friends at the same level.
These sessions are for B1 level students. If you’re unsure of your level please email [email protected]
